The Tuesday July 13th program of the Salem Historical Society will feature "History of Canfield Fair" by Kathy Bennett, a director at the Fair Board. The program, held in the Society’s meeting room located at 208 S. Broadway with entrance off East Alley, will follow a short business meeting beginning at 7:00.
Kathy Bennett grew up on the family farm east of Salem . She is the daughter of Elden Groves, an editor of the FARM AND DAIRY, and Jeanette Groves, a former teacher in the Salem City School system. Her parents and sister, Janice Lesher, were involved in both Columbiana and Mahoning County activities as the farm was on the county line.
After graduation from Greenford High School and Ohio State University , she taught at United Local High School . She and her husband operated the Bennett Greenhouse. She became the women’s editor for the FARM AND DAIRY and a director with the Canfield Fair Board.
In time for the upcoming 164th annual fair, Kathy will relate many of the historical events and developments through the years. This interesting and informative session is open to the public, as are all historical programs.
Serving as greeter for this meeting will be trustee Dick Ward, while Joan Lora, David Shivers and Dixie Gordon will provide refreshments. For additional information, contact the Museum, 330-337-8514.
